Amazon did not respond to emailed requests for comment.
Some social media users have noted that the use of the tricolor on products is against the Flag Code Of India, 2002.
Some of the social media users said that such use is an insult to the national flag while others pointed out that it is a cheap method to increase sales and it will not increase the patriotism of Indian citizens.
“The flag must not be used as part of a costume or uniform of any description. It must not be embroidered or printed on cushions, handkerchiefs, towels or boxes”, according to the Coded.
This isn’t the first time Amazon has faced such a backlash. In 2017, Amazon was forced to remove doormats featuring the Indian flag that appeared on its Canadian website after a strong protest from India.
