Amazon Fire TV 4K Max: Still Offers More Than Android TV Streaming Stick Rivals

It is now the largest Amazon Fire TV range ever to be sold in India. This is great news for movie buffs, video streaming enthusiasts, and couch potatoes.

Overall, the attraction remains the same. Simple plug and play – connect it to your TV’s HDMI port, and even if yours is a smart TV, it just gets smarter.

The Fire TV Stick – priced at around ??1799 – is the entry point to the six-device range. The Amazon Fire TV 4K Max is the newest addition. The price tag of ??6,499 means it’s a step lower than the versatile Fire TV Cube which costs around ??8,999.

The Amazon Fire TV 4K Max gets standard Wi-Fi 6 support, more RAM, and the new Live View Picture-in-Picture mode.

In many ways, the Amazon Fire TV 4K Max is the logical successor to the Amazon Fire TV 4K, although the latter is still on sale. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is equipped with a MediaTek MT8696 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz.

There is also 2 GB of RAM. In comparison, the Fire TV Stick 4K is powered by a 1.7 GHz processor and has 1.5 GB of RAM. What doesn’t change is the form factor or size, and it continues to plug directly into your TV’s HDMI port and effortlessly hides behind the TV.

With Amazon Fire TV 4K Max, expect faster interface switches, faster streaming app load times, and more resources, as well as a grunt to process 4K content, in especially fast visuals.

The internal storage space, which is 8 GB, remains the same as before. The same goes for HDR support including Dolby Vision in OTT streaming apps including Netflix and Disney + Hotstar, as well as the ability to handle Dolby Atmos audio.

All the boxes were checked by the Amazon Fire TV 4K before, but the Amazon Fire TV 4K Max is coming in and doing it all with a little more swagger.

The Fire OS, the software that Fire TV streaming devices run, is viewable taking full advantage of the slightly more available RAM. Transitions are smoother, streaming apps load much faster, and everything feels faster when you press a button on the remote.

The Amazon Fire TV 4K was not left out, the Amazon Fire TV 4K Max is even faster. The fact that you can now add subscriptions to other streaming services in the Amazon compartment (Lionsgate Play, Discovery + and DocuBay to name a few), adds a layer of convenience.

Our observations suggest that the quality of playing Full HD and 4K content on the same TV is comparable to that of Amazon Fire TV 4K Max and Amazon Fire TV 4K, but some Dolby Vision HDR content on Netflix most certainly envelops a richer take when playing with the new Amazon Fire TV 4K Max.

In fact, it comes quite close to the larger Amazon Fire TV Cube in terms of color and dynamic range, indicating the most power available for visual processing. This is where the valiant battle of the streaming sticks running Google’s Android TV or the new Google TV platforms falls behind. They just don’t have that kind of growl under the hood.

The other big addition for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is support for Wi-Fi 6 networks. You probably know it better as Wi-Fi AX. The Wi-Fi 6 standard hits a theoretical maximum network speed of 9.6 Gbps, above the 3.5 Gbps cap on Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi AC.

Still, you will likely be limited by the speed of your home broadband line, for video streaming on apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. If you’ve bought a high-end router in the past six months, you might have picked one with Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi AX supported – but anything older, chances are your house is still not connected to Wi-Fi. 6 supports.

The addition of the Live View Picture-in-Picture option is Amazon’s real attempt to expand the reach of the Fire TV Stick 4K Max as a smart home hub. Calling Alexa on the streaming device will still allow you to control lights, fans, smart plugs, air purifiers, and other smart home devices. This new Live View option gives you access to a live feed from your smart security cameras to your TV, overlaid on whatever you’re already watching – ideal if the doorbell just rang and you want to see who’s at the door , without having to pause the movie streaming.

There is no doubt that the Fire TV Stick 4K Max offers the greatest convenience and the best platform for accessing video streaming apps. The Alexa voice remote includes controls for the TV as well as hot keys for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, which makes things more convenient.

There’s certainly a premium attached to it, but you’ll be hard pressed to find another 4K streamer as good as this one, in a dongle form factor that plugs directly into the TV’s HDMI port.

Android TV and Google TV options are improving, especially in the hands of Xiaomi and Realme, but still not close enough.
