Employees have access to more than 1,000 online courses and more than 170 majors and concentrations at UNCG.
GREENSBORO, NC — Amazon employees across the country have the opportunity to earn free Triad tuition.
It’s thanks to the company’s career choice Program and they partner with UNC Greensboro to make it happen.
According to Amazon, the program is designed to enable employees to learn new skills for their careers. UNCG officials said they looked forward to the impact of this partnership.
Employees have access to more than 1,000 online courses and more than 170 majors and concentrations at UNCG. The university’s school of nursing, school of education, and the Bryan School of Business & Economics are just a few.
“We have a lot of on-demand programs and it’s across a range of areas, so they don’t necessarily have to go through a licensing course specifically related directly to what they do at Amazon. They certainly can, we have the number one ranked online bachelor’s degree in business in the state according to US and world news report so they can certainly get flexibility and high quality if they want to stay on that kind of business or supply chain management track, but they can also go down IT tracks, parts in computer science or they can follow health care directions,” said UNCG Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Joel Lee.
Tuition, books, and fees are fully paid for by Amazon. The UNCG is the first Triad institution to partner with the company and its program.
“It’s really exciting for us because we have an access-focused mission as a state institution that is our responsibility to educate North Carolina first and make college education affordable, accessible and realistic for students of all kinds and so I think that’s why we’re excited Amazon is trying to do the same for its employees,” Lee said.
The UNCG will join more than 200 universities across the country that are part of the program. News 2 spoke with an NC regional representative at Amazon about their decision to partner with UNCG.
“They have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and they offer courses to meet students where they are. With over 1,400 Amazon employees in the region, we want to make sure we have a strong partner in place. to help them achieve their education goals,” said Khim Aday.
Amazon employees are eligible for the program after 90 days of employment.
Our hope for the future of this program is that more employees take advantage of this benefit to pursue their passion and learn the skills they need for a successful future, whether with Amazon or elsewhere,” said Aday.
