Bolton: like father, like son at Amazon in Bolton

An engineer at Amazon in Bolton is set to celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday with one of his colleagues, who is also his son.

Barry Innes, who has worked at Amazon since 2017, is one of dozens of Amazon dads across the UK who work alongside their children.

As Father’s Day 2022 approaches, the father and son team have spoken about how their family bond unites them both inside and outside of work.

Barry works alongside his son Joe, who is an apprentice engineer at Amazon’s fulfillment center in Bolton. Barry and Joe have been working together since Joe started his apprenticeship in 2018.

Prior to joining Amazon, Barry worked as a project manager for a currency manufacturing company and applied for a position at Amazon because he wanted a new challenge.

Joe was completing a mechanical apprenticeship for another company.

But after hearing how much his dad loved working at Amazon, he decided to quit his current job to start a new journey at the tech giant, hoping to progress even further in his studies.

Their close working relationship is something the couple really appreciate.

Barry said: “I really appreciate that I get to watch Joe grow up.

“I have seen him progress all his life and for him to continue to develop on a daily basis is a very proud moment for me.”

Joe echoes his dad’s thoughts when it comes to working together, thanking his dad for “his mentorship and guidance.”

He spoke of his father’s constant encouragement to grow independently, adding, “When it comes to guidance, he points me in the right direction, charting a path for me to come down on my own.”

Joe said his dad always helps him with whatever he needs, especially when he needs support.

He added, “If I need a joke and a laugh, we have the same sense of humor.”

Barry shared some tips for all family members working together or considering working together.

He said: “It’s a great opportunity to spend more time with your loved ones.

“Life is too short and we have to enjoy every moment we can.”
