Updated: October 26, 2022 10:37 a.m.
The new iPad Pro 2022 has a lot of features, but is the iPad Pro a laptop replacement? You may be wondering. This is the age of portability. Everyone is looking for a powerful device to carry around without compromising on power. But this is not a problem for users of the Apple ecosystem.
When it comes to high portability with power, the company offers not one but two options; the MacBook Air M2 and the iPad Pro M2. But is it possible to use the iPad Pro just as a daily driver? It’s a big question, but the answer is just as simple if you just open your eyes and take a look at a few things.

iPad Pro vs laptop: how do they measure up?
Apple started offering the iPad Pro as a laptop replacement after its initial launch. And why not? The screen is about the right size. It’s powerful; you can run some of the most demanding programs with ease. There’s also a full-size keyboard which offers a decent typing experience and the amazing iPadOS.
But there are problems. The MacBook Air costs $1199. It’s a full-size laptop that meets all your needs. The iPad Pro in basic mode costs $1,099 and $1,299 for the Wi-Fi and Cellular models, respectively. The price seems more or less the same. Now count the prices of the Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard. You need another $500. Thus, the iPad Pro costs more.
The Magic Keyboard is awesome. It looks and feels premium; the typing experience is also decent. But the lack of function keys is a problem. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but in the long run it’s a big deal.
Support for external displays is also limited. The iPad Pro will only connect to an external display with USB-C support. Otherwise, you need to get an adapter. But the biggest limitation is the limited screen mirroring capability for a single external display. There’s also the fact that the iPad Pro only outputs video to an external display at full size. It’s great for Netflix and chilling out. Not so good for productivity. There’s also limited app support and more.
Last word: does the iPad Pro replace a laptop?
The iPad Pro is a great device, especially the new iPad Pro 2022. It can work as a laptop. But it can’t function as your sole productivity machine. If Apple really tries, maybe one day the iPad Pro will become the true laptop replacement, but that time hasn’t come yet.
