(Pocket-lint) – Lenovo used CES 2022 to reveal an additional product in its line of connected smart clocks: the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential With Alexa Built-In.
It was mid to late 2020 when Lenovo unveiled the previous Smart Clock Essential, which uses Google Assistant as a voice command assistant. Version 2022 is more about Amazon Alexa, adding more choices to the market to meet various preferences.
Otherwise, as we have always said about this series, the Smart Clock Essential is indeed one of those ‘does what it says on the tin ‘ some products. It’s a digital clock that uses Alexa to turn it into a smart speaker that tells the time.
The original Lenovo Smart Clock, released in 2019, was a touchscreen device. The Essential does away with that touchscreen capability, reducing things to the basics, which is why voice control makes all the more sense in this particular product.
It is, in a sense, a ‘speaker clock’, combining the features you would expect from a bedside or kitchen clock – time, date, alarm – with smart voice functions, such as the ability to ordering listening to the radio or having time was audibly announced. There is a built-in 3W speaker with two passive radiators to increase the sound output.
Keeping its name “Essential” is an essential price: the Alexa version of this smart clock will retail for $ 59 when it goes on sale in January. It is available in Clay Red (pictured) or Misty Blue fabric finishes. Very beautiful indeed.
