Over the past decade, Netflix has become a bona fide pop culture phenomenon, with its original programming regularly sparking conversation and hype. This turned out to be the case for ozark, the streaming service’s drama series that premiered the first part of its fourth and final season earlier this year. The milestones surrounding the latest batch of episodes haven’t slowed down, with the most recent Nielsen figures revealing the show’s 37 existing episodes garnered a total of 2.372 billion minutes watched in the week of January 31-6 alone. February. This definitely tops the next most popular series, along with Amazon Prime To reach with 1.843 billion minutes, and Hulu’s Pam and Tommy in tenth place on the list with 312 million minutes. This comes after the latest episodes of ozark clearly topped Netflix’s Top 10 rankings in its early days.
ozark is a thrilling drama set in the present day that follows the Byrde family’s journey from their normal life in suburban Chicago to their dangerous criminal enterprise in the Ozarks, Missouri. The series explores capitalism, family dynamics, and survival through the eyes of (anything but) ordinary Americans.
The new season stars Emmy Award winner Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Emmy Award winner Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Charlie Tahan, Jessica Frances Dukes, Lisa Emery, Felix Solis, Damian Young, Alfonso Herrera, Adam Rothenberg, John Bedford Lloyd, Joseph Sikora, Bruno Bichir, CC Castillo, Katrina Lenk, Bruce Davison, Ali Stroker and Veronica Falcon. “Really, I mean, I think for all of this, Marty and Wendy for the first time are going to be firmly on the same page. Ruth is going to kind of stand against them firmly, everyone has to understand what he wants their lives,” Mundy said of the final season in an interview with Deadline Last year. “For the first time, I think people are going to be able to make choices and not just react to the madness, it’s around them, and so, we feel like the end of the show has been baked in. But hopefully it’s something that while you’re living it, you’re continuously surprised.”
