Saturday was an action-packed day with a full slate of MLB (including two doubleheaders) and horse racing at Tuley’s Takes home office.
In addition to my top sports betting from this daily version of my “Tuley’s Takes” column, I also do a “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” column on Saturdays with some of my horse betting friends. I had a losing day betting on ponies (out of my three posted games I only had one on the board and paid $6.70 at Place), but I was also playing in a NHC qualifying game (i.e. for the national riders championship at the end of the year, with 2 places available for the top 2 of the tournament on Saturday) and I had a long shot of 70-1 at Gulfstream Park which put me in the lead. I couldn’t hold on, but I finished 8th to earn NHC Tour points. As for my sports games, they couldn’t have gone better as I made a perfect 4-0 with my first 5 innings bets. All of them started between 4:10 and 4:15 p.m. Vegas time, so I got to watch them play together in real time. I won my best bet of the day on the Cardinals 1st 5 -110 against the Yankees as they were up 1-0 after the “first half”. I also won my second game on the Royals 1st 5+115 as the Royals led the Red Sox 4-3 at the break. I also gave extra plays on the Reds 1st 5+150 as they led the Brewers 4-3 and the Twins 1st 5+110 as they led the Blue Jays 3-2. Plus all 4 also won the full game money lines so it was a clean sweep regardless of how you bet them (I just wish we had done a round robin or other parlays LOL). Let’s recap the rest of Saturday’s betting results (full game) and look for other first 5 inning opportunities on Sunday’s MLB card.
MLB: The Underdogs went 9-8 on Saturday with the biggest upsets from the Tigers (+220 in 9-1 win over the Rays), Rockies (+161 in 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks), Reds (+155 in win 7-5 against the Brewers) ) and Guardians (+ 142 in 4-1 victory against Astros). The home teams went 13-4. Overs went 10-6-1 with the push in the White Sox-Rangers game (8).
More MLB: Favorites lead 954-635 SU (60%) on the season with 25 pick-’ems (favorites typically win around 59%; still ahead of the pace; gap had narrowed but is now back to 60% ). Home teams only lead 849-765 (52.6%, but usually closer to 54%). Under lead 791-742-78 (51.6 percent).
Cardinals 1st 5+120 vs. Yankees: I’m right back with the Cardinals (who are on a 6 game winning streak) even though they’re playing the Yankees, who are actually on a 4 game skid. As I wrote yesterday, the Cardinals are in contention again and we get veteran Adam Wainwright against Frankie Montas. It’s hard to think of this Yankees team being swept away, but hopefully the Cardinals can at least be ahead after 5 innings. It has the feeling of last September when I had a hot race with the Cardinals. I had a hard time finding a better game for the day as Sunday seems very chalky overall (we’ll see if I’m still right with that assessment when we do our daily recap Sunday night on “The Lookahead” on VSiN at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT as well as on Twitter @ViewFromVegas and here in the Monday morning column). In fact the only other 1st 5 I really like is in the Sunday night baseball game with the Padres/Darvish 1st 5+120 at the Dodgers which is hard to pull the trigger because I was 0-3 obliterating the Dodgers this past week.
Good luck today (and every day!).
